Title: 15052009

The clink and clatter of cutlery and plates fused with the jovial chattering of individual conversations filled the Great Hall. It was Christmas eve and a scrumptious meal was laid out for the students at Winterford. Amongst the different topics of speech; wondering about gifts, prattling on about the winter collection, feeling relieved at exam's end, and maybe a bit of romance? Let us zoom in on Grey.

Grey, the third year student. Grey, the popular guy. Grey, the lovesick puppy.

Grey stared across the table at Languine Sadrinka, the beautiful foreign exchange student. I say beautiful because, amongst the thorns of a school whose majority of it's student population was dominantly male, she was one of fifty girls which made up less than 10% of the school populace. And of the fifty girls, she was the only foreign student. As appealing as the local girls are, guys were attracted to the mysterious and the strange, and to them, Sadrinka was an unknown oddity that stood out wherever she was simply because she was different.

Sadrinka ate only vegetables, drank only water and the occasional soda, smiled more than any girl, laughed more than any girl, could brighten up a room just by walking into it, and most of all, she swept the breath of the male population away. She was the beautiful, ever-smiling, kind and caring lady from over the waters.

Sadrinka caught Grey staring and shot him a breathtaking smile. He immediately feels his heart flip and looks to his left. Maple, the local girl-next-door, was deeply, madly, truely in love with Grey. Pitiful thing has been rejected a few times. But she's still at it. Grey caught a few pairs of eyes staring at Sadrinka and he decides to ask a stupid question. The question that started a chain reaction that turned into the biggest disaster of Christmas eve that Winterford has ever had.

"Sadrinka. Have you noticed... anything about the... guys?" He asked. Now, Grey was a very straight forward person. But a question like this, he couldn't have known how to phrase it. After all, he's only 18.

Sadrinka, drew up her piercing cerulean eyes and smiled another sweeter-than-honey smile, causing Grey to inwardly blush.

"Yes. And?" She answered. Now, Sadrinka was the type who thought that if she had something to flaunt, why not? So a question like this, she could answer with ease.

"Erm... I was wondering... If anyone has asked you... to the Winter ball...?" He flashed her a charming smile that was his pride and joy but still held a slight blush on his cheeks. After all, Winterford only introduced girls this year and at his first dance, he didn't know what to do. Or what to expect.

Sadrinka's smile widened. She tittered a little and looked down. Small actions like that was enough to drive people mad. Including Maple. She eyed the girl with an almost ferocious look. Now, the difference between the local beauty queens and the foreign newcomers were that, the locals were more aggresive. They were protective and stubborn, as in their nature.
